First of all you need to find out how much money you have to work with. See how much your parents and maybe his parents will contribute. Then you can go from there. The best thing I can tell you is to go to this website....it has everything you will ever need, seriously. wedding.theknot.com/ wedding-planning/ planning-a-wedding/ articles/ first-wedding-to-dos.aspx

When i started planning i was going insane cuz i didnt know what to do and when it needed to be done.... then my friend told me about ourweddingday.com they have a checklist and timeline... they even have a thing were you can keep track of you RSVP's and how many people are invited and everything.... i highly recommended .... i honestly dont know what i would have done without it... and also if you have a question about something all you have to do is ask the people on the website and they will email you their thoughts within one day!

Congrats on the engagement!! The first thing I did was buy a wedding planner book. It was a lifesaver. It tells you what you should be doing every month up until your wedding. Definitely after picking a date is to find a venue where you would like to hold your wedding with a rough estimate of how many people will be attending. After you book that, you are ready to find all the details that go with it. Guest list, color schemes, centerpieces, cake bakery, dress shopping, bridesmaids dress shopping, photographer, etc. It will all fall into place, it is just nice to have that planning book to keep track of reciepts, due dates of bills, a budget tracker, guest list.. but most of all what you should have done month to month. Good Luck, wedding planning is so fun!

I agree that it's best to sort out your budget before starting anything. Picture your wedding and things you'd like to include and write down what you imagine. That will help you prioritize your budget. For instance if you don't care about the cake but you love photography then you know how to allocate your funds for what matters most to you. Its also good to see how other brides are addressing certain things so check out: getmarried.com/ bloggerbrides/ Have fun and Congrats!
